In light of the current economic crisis in our country I thought I'd post of few interesting remarks from those who know what having tons of money is all about!
"I have made millions, but they have brought me no happiness." -- John D. Rockefeller
"I know of nothing more despicable and pathetic than a man who devotes all the ho urs of the waking day to the making of money for money's sake." -- John D. Rockefeller
"I am the most miserable man on earth." -- John Jacob Astor
"What can I say? I only know that I am desolate." --J. Paul Getty
"I was happier when I was doing a mechanic's job." -- Henry Ford
"Millionaires seldom smile." -- Andrew Carnegie
"Money has only one use -- to give one independence from his enemies." -- Humphrey Bogart
"Money doesn't talk, it swears." -- Bob Dylan
"Money often costs too much." -- Ralph Waldo Emerson
"I don't care too much for money, for money can't buy me love." -- John Lennon & Paul McCartney

Intersting Post, but the thing is, having lot's of money is not a bad thing, but if we look at what these men did with their money will reflect why they feel the way they do. Let's look at each person,
John Astor - a Fur Company owner & Realastate broker. Legacy - Astor Library for the NY Public.
John D. Rockefeller - Rockefeller tithed ten percent of his earnings to his church. Since his first paycheck Rockefeller did not forget what was important in his life. He laso poured millions into Universities and other areas to help the Oil Reveolution to benefit others.
J. Paul Getty - MArried 5 Times, has 5 children (one passed away at age 12) Gettys only legacies - Getty Oil part of LukOil (there is the getty Foundation and other items similar, but these were not started until after his death.)
Henry Ford - The Pioneer in the Auto Industry, But also a man who got caught up in a scandelous area in life with the purchous of The Dearborn Independent, this magazine published an article Titled "Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion," of which Ford stated "The only statement I care to make about the Protocols is that they fit in with what is going on." During this period, Ford emerged as "a respected spokesman for right-wing extremism and religious prejudice," reaching around 700,000 readers through his newspaper. Ford went on later to Apologize for his remarks. But Ford was the Pioneer in the Industrial Revolution. Thats his Legacy.
Andrew Carnegie - While Carnegie paid his employees the low wages typical of the time, he later gave away most of his money to fund the establishment of many libraries, schools, and universities in America, the United Kingdom and other countries, as well as a pension fund for former employees. He is often regarded as the second richest man in history. Carnegie started as a telegrapher and by the 1860s had investments in railroads, railroad sleeping cars, bridges and oil derricks. He built further wealth as a bond salesman raising money for American enterprise in Europe.
Steel was where he made his fortune. In the 1870s, he founded the Carnegie Steel Company, a step which cemented his name as one of the “Captains of Industry”. By the 1890s, the company was the largest and most profitable industrial enterprise in the world. Carnegie sold it to J.P. Morgan in 1901, who created US Steel. Carnegie devoted the remainder of his life to large-scale philanthropy, with special emphasis on local libraries, world peace, and education and scientific research.
Humphrey Bogart - Legacy - Lot's and Lot's of movies
Bob Dylan - Legacy is in the music world.
Ralph Waldo Emerson - Famous Poems, and burried in Sleepy Hollow Cemetary, he also pretty much died broke.
John Lennon & Paul McCartney Legacy - THE BEATLES
Here is the intersting thing, if we look at those whose lives changed other lives, thats real impact. But if we look at those who just made money and did nothing with it, there memory slowly fades away.
I mean walk up to a 21 year old person and ask them to name 1 song from Bob Dylin, or the Beatles and I am quite sure they would look at you clueless.
So in all of this, forget the money think about what Legacy God has for you. Even if you make an impact on one single person, thats your legacy.
We as Christians need to be about that One instead of the Manny.
What does God want you to do?
